The story of The Wooden Touch
putter began in a small Oregon myrtlewood factory. Myrtle, native to
Oregon, is one of the most cherished hardwoods and grows primarily in a
small area on the Pacific Coast.
Among the skilled craftsmen
who had been making hand-crafted gifts of the rare myrtlewood was a
golfer who believed that wood putters provide a touch vital to accurate
placement of the ball. Soon, word spread and request for putters came
in a few at a time. The popularity of the putter continued to grow.
With that growth came a recognition that the factory was making what
was considered one of golf's most beautiful and efficient putters.
The design of the putter
evolved through use by hundreds of players. Cocobolo from Mexico was
added to give the striking surface the density desired long-term use.
Feature strips of Oregon Myrtlewood and padouk from West Africa are
carefully laminated to the main body to add a unique beauty to each
individual putter. Four coats of varathane, outdoor clear gloss finish,
are lovingly applied to each putter to provide a durable finish. In
all, 17 hand operations are needed to bring the desired balance and
beauty of the putter to completion.
